The municipality of Vrontados was, in the beginning, a single community with the cathedral church of Saint George at its center and remained like this until the year 1882, then it was divided in two communities: South and North part of Vrontados. In the year 1918 there was an effort to unite the two separated communities in one.
This idea became true with the valuable help of our dear departed fellow-citizen, George C" Fragouli Andreadi. It was with his actions that, by the government of the then prime minister Eleftherios Venizelos, and with an agreement between the two municipalities, Vrontados was elected a Municipality. The first Mayor of Vrontados was mister Xenofon E. Xenios. A man of pride, kind and efficient, who loved his country. He worked hard for the progress and the prosperity of his place.
In 1991 another change in the administrative structure took place in the territory of the central part of the island, which involved Vrontados. This was the introduction of a new municipality called Homeroupolis, which got its name from Homer, the famous epic poet who, according to traditions, lived and taught his epics at the area of Daskalopetra, one of the most well-known areas of Vrontados.

In this section you take a flashback on the events in the history of Vrontados and read about the main battles in this area.
