For everybody the day of the resurrection of Christ is holy and there is meant to be a joyful celebration.
Every year on this special day there is a tradition in Chios, especially in Vrontados that is called the rocket war. It’s like a readjusted war with fireworks. It’s a tradition that came through other old customs.
In the night of the resurrection of Christ, after the priest divided the holy light, the two communities of Saint Mark and Erithiani start the rocket war.
The inhabitants of every community, doesn’t matter if young or old, meet in the court of the church and they light the rockets, trying to hit the tower of the church of the “enemies”.
It’s a big celebration for all those people who were occupied the whole year with preparing the rockets. But also those who are only spectators are amazed by the spectacular event and the different lights and colors in the sky in the night of the resurrection of Christ.
It is an amazing event, overall for those people who going to climb the mountain Epos to see everything from the highest point of Chios.
Of course, the inhabitants of all the communities near by are prepared well. They
prepared their houses with constructions of fences and wire nets for possible damages.
In the end it doesn’t matter who is the winner or the looser, the most important is that everybody and all together are celebrating the resurrection of Christ with a lot of joy and enthusiasm.
